Name: Music at the Library: Kammermusik
Date: February 1, 2019
Time: 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM MST
Event Description:
The public is warmly invited to attend a concert of chamber music favorites performed by members of the Roaring Fork Chamber Players on February 1, 2019 at 5:30 PM, Basalt Regional Library Community Room. Valley musicians Erin Gallagher, viola, Sarah Graf, cello, and Kevin Kaukl, piano, will perform works by Brahms, Schumann, and Beethoven . Chamber music, or Kammermusik in the language of these composers, was written to be played in a small space with little distance between the performers and audience. Our intimate space allows conversational discourse between players plus an insightful musical experience for the listener. The concert will open with Brahms’ Viola Sonata in E-flat Major, Op. 120, No. 2. One of Brahms’ last compositions, this work is rich in romantic tone colors and soaring melodies. Schumann’s Fantasy Pieces, Op. 73 (1849) contrasts moments of deep introspection with bursts of euphoria. The program will close with Beethoven’s Trio, Op. 11 (1797). This work was written early in Beethoven’s life before any indication of his impending hearing loss. The Trio's closing movement, a set of variations based on a popular hit song of the day entitled "Before I go to Work", combines exuberance and hilarity with a hint of ridiculousness.
